ISU-SWIM P1, PSABE-CVRC and COE-ISU, conducts 2 Day Training on Quantum GIS Software with CPD Units
The two-day training on Quantum GIS Software conducted by the Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers- Cagayan Valley Regional Chapter, College of Engineering- Isabela State University, and Smart Water Infrastructure Management Project 1 was held on November 23-24, 2022 via Zoom Platform which was attended by 147 participants from different universities and agencies.
The purpose of the training was to introduce the QGIS software as a relevant tool for water resources management, monitoring, and application; and engage the participants in an in-depth lecture and hands-on tutorial in the basic tools and principles that govern the function of the QGIS software. In addition, the training conducted includes five (5) CPD credit units – an important factor in license renewal.
The trainers for this training were from the Smart Water Infrastructure and Management (SWIM) Project 1, Engineer Englebert O. Manmano and Engineer Jayzelle S. Ventura. On the first day, the training began with a prayer and the singing of the national anthem. It was formally opened by Dr. Lanie A. Alejo, the president of Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers – Cagayan Valley Regional Chapter (PSABE-CVRC) and Director of the Water Research and Development Center (WReDC) who shared the rationale and objectives of the training. Dr. Alejo also welcomed the participants and thanked them for attending the training. Her message was then followed by the training proper.
The first speaker, Engr. Ventura, discussed about the Introduction of GIS, and QGIS, and installation of the software. The second speaker, Engr. Manmano discussed about Basic QGIS Tools and Attribute Table, Basic QGIS Tools and Attribute Table and Georeferencing tools, plugins and digitizing workflow+ Layout manager. His discussion was coupled with hands-on exercises.
On the second day, Engr. Manmano continued the discussion and hands-on activities on Downloading Landsat data+ NDVI Calculation and Layout Manager. After the activities, Engr Melanie A. Baguio, Secretary of Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers – Cagayan Valley Regional Chapter (PSABE-CVRC) and faculty member of ISU-E College of Engineering, delivered her closing remarks with a brand-new vision and reason to enjoy what was once a modern software but now an advantageous application.
