Smart Water Resources Planning and Monitoring is conducting a wealth of hydrologic and geological explorations all of the Cagayan Valley Region

The Smart Water Infrastructure Management (SWIM) R&D Center Project 1: Smart Water Resources Planning and Monitoring is conducting a wealth of hydrologic and geological explorations all of the Cagayan Valley Region. This is to strategically locate the optimum locations of the groundwater observation wells in the region. These wells will be created to establish a real-time groundwater monitoring system in order to serve a greater purpose of observing and investigating the regional and local groundwater flow in the area and the qualities of groundwater for possible remediation and protection interventions.

In lieu to this, the SWIM P1, headed by Prof. Orlando F. Balderama has recently concluded a consultative meeting together with the Philippine Groundwater Society (PGS) on September 01, 2022 where experts in the field of hydrogeology were able to share their insights and remarks regarding the project’s aim and the current undertakings being done. The GSP was duly represented by Mr. Chito Cole (President) Mr. Carlos Perez (Vice President) and Ms. Leonila Bron Sikat. The PGS assured the SWIM team in their assistance and support by conducting a series of lecture about hydrogeology, groundwater well installation, and groundwater modeling from a geologist’s perspective. This will further invigorate and expand the domain to which the project may reach as the addition of experts on the side of the spectrum may enhance the scope and refine the methodologies in promulgating the objectives of the study.

Collaborative efforts between SWIM R&D and PGS will ensure intensive trainings and research activities. Forging such alliance is congruent to the project’s aim of attaining better research results that will later on benefit stakeholders of the region, particularly its people.
